YACHT Shangri-La "Utopia"

YACHT's second single from June 1st release of Shangri-La (out on DFA Records) is titled "Utopia" and is the juxtaposition of the first single "Dystopia (The Earth is on Fire)". Together Claire L. Evans and Jona Bechtolt sing in harmony "there's nothing in the future/it's up to us to make Utopia." In their own unique way, they do.

BOBBY "Ginger (Water Birth)"

BOBBY will drop their self titled debut album June 21 on Partisan Records. BOBBY have made a soundtrack for those mid-summer-afternoon-chilling-in-the-shade-of-a-tree-moments. Their second single "Ginger (Water Birth)" is out now. Beirut The Rip Tide "East Harlem"

Beirut is set to release their latest album titled Rip Tide on August 30th on Pompeii Records (Revolver in the US). Pompeii Records is owned solely by Beirut's Zach Condon allowing him to retain complete creative control. The first single (available now in limited addition) is "East Harlem" which you can listen to below. Beirut will be in Vancouver August 10 (tickets are on sale now) at the Commodore Ballroom. Let me tell you that if it is anything like the last time he was in town you do not want to miss this show. If you're not yet a Beirut fan it's not too late, just tell them Tasty Ears sent you.

Black Lips Arabia Mountain "Modern Art" (video)

June 7th , 2011 will mark the release of the latest album from the Black Lips titled Arabia Mountain from PHI/Vice Records. The sixteen track album is produced by Mark Ronson (Adele, Amy Winehouse), Lockett Pundt (Deerhunter), and the band themselves. The flower-punk-garage-rock-lo-fi-boys-from-Georgia are back in Vancouver on June 15th at the Commodore Ballroom. Their live shows are famously raucous and, with the addition of the latest material, not to be missed. See you there. Go!

Pictureplane are set to release Thee Physical on July 18th on Lovepump United. The song "Real is a Feeling" was posted here earlier and now you can watch the video too. Watch for Pictureplane on tour mid-July with Teengirl Fantasy and Gatekeeper. Travis Egedy (aka Pictureplane) also directed the video. Freaky.

Her Space Holiday Black Cat Balloons EP

Not too long ago Marc Bianchi announced that Her Space Holiday (original announcement) would be put to rest with the release of a final album on August 16th. Well this week, as a lead up to that album, comes the release of the Black Cat Balloons EP. Head over to My Old Kentucky Blog to download the new EP while you can. Milagres "Glowing Mouth"

Brooklyn Based quintet Milagres is set to release Glowing Mouth on September 13th on Kill Rock Stars. The title track is available now below. Singer Kyle Wilson came right here to British Columbia to get away from it all and ended up writing several sketches and coming up with a new vision for the band. Picking up Fraser McCulloch, Eric Schwortz, Chris Brazee, and Steven Leventhal upon his return to New York they put together the new bands first album Glowing Mouth. Featuring falsetto vocals atop keyboard melodies this first single by the same name as the album is a beauty. Check it.
